Our favorite Advent Calendars
Posted on 04 December 2016
Advent Calendars come in so many different forms and styles but "many take the form of a large rectangular card with "windows", of which there are usually 24: one for each day of December leading up to and including Christmas Eve. Consecutive doors are opened every day leading up to Christmas, beginning on December 1. The calendar windows open to reveal an image, a poem, a portion of a story (such as the story of the Nativity of Jesus), or a small gift, such as a toy or a chocolate item." Traditionally, Advent is the season leading up to Christ's birth, so many Christian's use Advent Calendars to coincide with their Advent devotionals. We love the idea of telling the story of Christmas through an Advent Calendar and daily devotionals for littles. We have some friends who fill their Advent Calendars with special bite size chocolates for each day and we know others who mix it up entirely - some days are small gifts and other days are letters to their kiddos or a fun joke. However you choose to fill your Advent Calendar, we've rounded up a few of our favorites below:
This one from Oh Happy Day gets our vote for the cutest Advent Calendar around this season! We love that this one could double up as a tabletop or mantle display.
If you're short on time or looking for a project to do with your littles, then this one from Rue Magazine is perfect. With a little bit of twine, a few kraft paper bags, and a stencil and paint or simply just a marker, you've got a stylish and easy Advent Calendar.
