A Conversation With Jesus at the Well
Some conversations stay with us because we were able to be honest in them. Someone listened carefully, asked a real question, and helped us look beyond what we could see on our own.
God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.
(John 4:24, NIV)
At a well in Samaria, Jesus spoke with a woman about water, her life, and worship. He offered living water leading to eternal life. He also spoke truthfully about her circumstances. As their conversation unfolded, He revealed that He was the Messiah. She went back to her town and invited people to come and see Him.
Make room for an honest conversation
John invites us to pay attention to Jesus Himself: the promised Messiah, offering life and making the Father known. The woman’s questions became part of a conversation in which truth and welcome belonged together.
You can open John 4 slowly today and bring your own questions to the Lord. Notice what Jesus says about the gift He gives and the worship the Father seeks. Let His words shape your understanding.
There is also a simple way to serve someone else here. Listen long enough to hear the question beneath their first question. If they are interested, invite them to read this passage with you. You can explore it together with patience and humility.
An honest invitation to meet Jesus can begin in a very ordinary conversation.
A prayer
Jesus, thank You for offering living water and revealing the Father. Teach us to worship in Spirit and truth, and help our conversations make room for others to know You. Amen.
