A Prayer Before Surgery
Surgery can make tomorrow feel very close and every possible outcome feel close too. You do not have to carry all of that at once.
Prayer does not replace wise medical care. It gives us a place to bring fear, questions, and the people caring for us before Jesus.
Truth for the hours before surgery
Psalm 121 directs our attention to the Lord, our faithful keeper. Philippians 4:4-7 teaches believers to bring every concern to God with prayer and thanksgiving. These passages do not promise a particular medical result. They remind us whose presence remains steady while we receive care.
A prayer before surgery
Jesus, steady my heart before surgery. Give the surgeon, nurses, anesthesiology team, and every caregiver wisdom, clarity, and skill. Help them notice what matters and communicate well. Protect my body through each step. Give peace and endurance to the people waiting for me. When my mind runs toward every possibility, bring me back to the care in front of me and the grace available for this moment. Hold what I cannot control. Help me trust you one step at a time. Amen.
For the person waiting with you
Choose one person who can receive updates, pray specifically, and help communicate practical needs. Letting someone carry a small part of the day is one way the body of Christ can draw near.

You do not need to carry every possible outcome before the first step begins.
