Hand-lettered artwork reading: Ordinary faithfulness becomes worship when our work is offered to the Lord.

Colossians 3:23 in Context: Working for the Lord

This verse is often reduced to appearance or confidence. The psalm is first worship of the God who formed and knows us.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

(Colossians 3:23, NIV)

Read it in context

Paul addresses ordinary household relationships under the lordship of Christ. The following verse names Christ as the true Master, and the passage also warns that wrongdoing receives no favoritism.

What Scripture says

Ordinary work can honor Christ. This does not sanctify exploitation, excuse wrongdoing, or require obedience to demands that oppose God.

A faithful response

Read the surrounding chapter. Ask what it reveals about God, where it brings conviction, and what faithful love looks like today. Let trusted believers help carry what is heavy.

A prayer

Lord Jesus, receive today's ordinary work. Purify my motives, give me courage against wrongdoing, and make my faithfulness an honest offering to you. Amen.
