Galatians 5:22-23 in Context: The Fruit the Spirit Grows

A list like this can become another scorecard. Paul gives us something living: fruit the Holy Spirit grows in people who belong to Christ.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

(Galatians 5:22-23, NIV)

Read it in context

Galatians contrasts the works of the flesh with life by the Spirit. Freedom in Christ becomes freedom to serve one another humbly through love.

What Scripture says

The fruit is one Spirit-formed life taking shape in community. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control reflect the character of Jesus.

Carry it into today

Choose one relationship where this fruit needs room to grow. Ask the Spirit for help, then practice one concrete response. Growth may be gradual, and the church can help us keep walking in step together.

A prayer

Holy Spirit, form the character of Jesus in me. Grow patient love, steady goodness, gentle strength, and self-control that serves the people around me. Amen.
