God Will Not Give You More Than You Can Handle? Read 1 Corinthians 10:13
Maybe you have heard this verse offered as a quick answer. It deserves the care of being read as part of the whole passage.
And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.
(1 Corinthians 10:13, NIV)
Read it in context
Paul is warning the Corinthian church about temptation and idolatry. The promised way out concerns enduring temptation faithfully, not a guarantee that every burden will feel manageable.
What this means
Scripture never asks us to prove self-sufficiency. Jesus welcomes the weary, and His people are commanded to carry one another's burdens.
A faithful way through temptation
God is faithful in temptation. He calls us toward obedience, provides a way to endure, and gives us a church that can help carry what is too heavy to hold alone.
A faithful response
Read the surrounding chapter slowly. Ask what it reveals about God, what it calls you to trust or obey, and how the body of Christ can help you live it.
A prayer
Faithful God, show me the way of obedience in temptation. Where life is too heavy, teach me to receive help from you and your people. Amen.
