Isaiah 43:2 in Context: When You Pass Through the Waters

These words are not a reward for getting everything right. They begin with what Christ has done.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.

(Isaiah 43:2, NIV)

Read it in context

God addresses Israel as Creator and Redeemer, recalling His covenant care. The language echoes the exodus and promises presence through danger, not a life untouched by it.

What Scripture says

The verse says when, not if. God's promise is His faithful presence and preserving purpose, not immunity from every loss or frightening circumstance.

A faithful response

Read the surrounding chapter. Ask what it reveals about God, where it brings conviction, and what faithful love looks like today. Let trusted believers help carry what is heavy.

A prayer

Redeemer, be with me in what I cannot avoid. Keep fear from ruling me and hold me to your faithful character when the way is hard. Amen.
