John 13:34 in Context: Love One Another as Jesus Loved

Jesus did not hand His disciples a vague command to be nicer. He gave them His own love as the pattern.

As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

On the night before the cross, Jesus washes His disciples’ feet, names Himself their Lord and Teacher, and commands them to love one another as He has loved them.

Christian love begins with being served and loved by Jesus. It takes the shape of humility, truth, sacrifice, forgiveness, and care that becomes visible in community.

Carry it into today

Choose one person in your church, family, or neighborhood who may be carrying more than you can see. Offer one useful act of love: a meal, a call, patient listening, practical help, or honest encouragement.

A prayer

Jesus, let Your love become visible among us. Make me humble enough to serve, brave enough to tell the truth kindly, and attentive enough to notice who needs care. Amen.
