John 15:5 in Context: Remain in Jesus and Bear Fruit

We can work so hard at becoming better that we forget where Christian growth begins. Jesus gives us a gentler and truer picture: vine and branches.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

(John 15:5, NIV)

Read it in context

Jesus speaks these words to His disciples on the night before the cross. He prepares them for life and mission after His departure by calling them to remain in His love and keep His commands.

What Scripture says

Fruit grows through union with Jesus. Love, obedience, prayer, and witness flow from receiving life from Him, not from performing at a distance.

Carry it into today

Make a little room today to remain: read the surrounding chapter, pray honestly, and obey the next clear thing Jesus has said. Ask someone in the body of Christ to walk with you if faith feels dry.

A prayer

Jesus, keep me near You. Let Your words remain in me, grow fruit that reflects Your love, and receive all the glory for what You produce. Amen.
