Romans 12:9 in Context: Hate Evil and Cling to Good

Christian love is warm, but it is never vague. Paul gives it moral clarity and hands and feet.

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

Read it in context

Romans 12 begins in view of God’s mercy and describes a transformed community. Sincere love becomes devotion, honor, hope, patience, prayer, hospitality, empathy, peace, and good in response to evil.

What Scripture says

Love refuses agreement with evil and holds tightly to what reflects God’s character. It remains tender toward people while taking truth, holiness, and protection seriously.

Carry it into today

Ask where love needs to become more concrete today. Cling to one good action: tell the truth kindly, protect someone vulnerable, practice hospitality, or honor a person who is easily overlooked.

A prayer

Merciful God, make my love sincere. Teach me to recognize evil, cling to what is good, and move toward people with the honor and courage of Jesus. Amen.
