Romans 8:28 in Context: What All Things Really Means

Some verses get repeated so often that we stop hearing what they say. Romans 8:28 is often offered when life hurts, but Paul is not asking us to call the hurt good.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.

Read it in context

Romans 8 begins with no condemnation for those in Christ and ends with no separation from His love. Verse 29 names the good God is working toward: making His people like His Son.

What this means

God remains at work in every part of a believer's story. His purpose is larger than immediate relief. In Christ, even suffering cannot stop the work He has promised to complete.

Cling to what is good

God remains at work for the good of those who love Him, even while evil remains evil and grief remains worthy of lament. Christian hope stays near Jesus and near one another without rushing sorrow.

A faithful response

Name what hurts honestly. Ask God to keep you near Jesus in it. If someone else is suffering, offer presence and practical care before explanations.

A prayer

Father, this part of the story does not feel good. Keep me near Christ. Make me more like Him without asking me to pretend. Help your church carry what is heavy with me. Amen.
