A Prayer Before Starting a Business
An idea starts becoming a real plan. There are people to speak with, decisions to make, and responsibilities to understand. Before the work grows, there is room to place its purpose before God.
If it is the Lord’s will,
(James 4:15, NIV, excerpt)
James addresses people who speak confidently about business and profit while overlooking their dependence on God. He calls them to humble planning under the Lord’s will and faithful action in the good they already know. The passage invites surrender of both ambition and conduct.
Ask what faithful work would require
Consider who the work would serve and what responsibility you would have toward customers, coworkers, and anyone supporting the venture. Write down the commitments that would need careful attention.
Seek qualified advice for the practical decisions involved. Invite trusted people to ask hard questions about the plan, your capacity, and the way you intend to operate.
Pray about your motives as well as your hopes. Ask Jesus to shape your choices through honesty, fairness, and concern for others. Give yourself room to revise an idea as you learn.
Begin with a responsible next step that fits what you know. A plan held before God includes a willingness to listen, change direction, and do the good already within reach.
A prayer
Father, I place these plans before You. Give me humility about tomorrow and wisdom for today. Shape this work through honesty and love, guide the counsel I seek, and help me follow Jesus in every responsibility. Amen.
