Choosing a Gift With the Recipient in Mind
You want the gift to say that someone matters. Begin with what you know about the person: what they enjoy, what is useful to them, and what kind of care they would welcome.

Paul calls believers to use their freedom in humble service and love for their neighbors. The surrounding chapter describes life led by the Spirit rather than self-indulgence. Choosing a gift can be one small application of this wider call to attentive love.
Let what you know guide the choice
Think about a real preference or need the person has shared. A useful item, a favorite food, a handwritten note, or time spent helping may fit the occasion.
Choose within your means and consider practical details such as timing, accessibility, and whether the person can comfortably use what you offer. Asking a thoughtful question can help when you are unsure.
If you include a note, write something specific and true. You might name a quality you appreciate or offer a simple wish for their day. Say you are praying only when you are following through.
Give the person freedom to receive the gift in their own way. The aim is a considerate act of love, offered with humility and attention to the person Jesus calls you to care for.

Jesus, help me notice the person I hope to encourage. Guide me toward a thoughtful gift and honest words. Let my giving be shaped by humility, wisdom, and love that seeks another person’s good. Amen.
