Following Jesus in Your First Year Away From Home
A first year away from home brings choices that may feel newly your own. Scripture can remain a familiar place to learn who Jesus is and how to follow Him in those choices.

Paul urges Timothy to continue in the teaching he has received and remembers his early knowledge of Scripture. He connects that Scripture with salvation through faith in Christ and describes its work of teaching, correction, and preparation for faithful service.
Give Scripture a place in your new routine
Choose a manageable way to read a Bible passage attentively. Ask what it says about God, what it calls you to believe, and how it speaks to your conduct.
Stay connected with a faithful church and people you can ask honest questions. New independence can include wise support.
When a decision or friendship brings pressure, take time to consider it in the light of Jesus’ teaching. Seek counsel before a concern grows harder to address.
If you miss a rhythm or need to begin again, return to the next passage and the next faithful conversation. Let learning remain part of the way you grow into the responsibilities of this year.
A prayer
Jesus, guide those beginning a first year away from home. Help them remain attentive to Scripture, receive wise friendship, and make choices shaped by Your truth. Deepen their faith and teach them to care well for others. Amen.
