Jesus Sees the Woman Bent Double
In a synagogue on the Sabbath, Jesus noticed a woman who had been bent over for eighteen years. Luke brings our attention to His response: He called her forward, spoke to her, and laid His hands on her.
When Jesus saw her,

The woman stood upright and praised God. When the synagogue leader objected to the Sabbath healing, Jesus answered him and affirmed her dignity as a daughter of Abraham. The account reveals His authority to release her and His compassion toward her suffering.
Let Jesus shape the way you notice people
Read the scene slowly and give thanks for the Lord it reveals. Notice His attention, His action, and the woman’s praise.
As followers of Jesus, we can carry attentive compassion into our communities. Ask people what helps them participate fully in church life and listen to their experience.
Consider an ordinary step within your responsibility: accessible seating, a clear route through a room, practical assistance offered with permission, or time for a conversation.
Pray for people living with illness or disability, and ask how your church can care faithfully alongside them. Let their voices, gifts, and presence help shape the shared life of the congregation.
A prayer
Jesus, thank You for the compassion and authority revealed in this account. Teach us to notice people with love and to listen with respect. Guide our churches in practical care, welcome, and prayer for one another. Amen.
