What Repentance Looks Like in Everyday Life
Sometimes a passage of Scripture makes us stop and recognize something that needs to change. We can bring that recognition to Jesus honestly and respond to His call to turn toward God.
Repent, then, and turn to God,
(Acts 3:19, NIV, excerpt)
After the healing of a man at the temple, Peter directs the crowd to Jesus, whom God raised from the dead. He calls his hearers to repent and turn to God for forgiveness. Repentance belongs within this announcement of the risen Savior.
Turn toward God with an honest next step
Read Peter’s words with attention to Jesus. The invitation to repent is an invitation to turn from sin toward the Lord who offers forgiveness.
In prayer, name the sin you recognize without excuses. Ask for forgiveness through Christ and for help to walk in obedience.
Consider what a changed direction calls for today. It may include truthful words, an apology, returning what belongs to someone else, or ending a harmful habit.
Seek wise support from a trusted Christian when you need help following through. Keep returning to Scripture and prayer as you learn. Repentance is a serious response to God, and His mercy gives hope to those who turn to Him.
A prayer
Risen Jesus, help us hear Your call with honest hearts. Forgive our sins and teach us to turn from them. Give us courage to take the next obedient step and humility to receive faithful help. Amen.
