When Peter Needed Restoration
Facing a failure honestly can be painful. Peter’s encounter with the risen Jesus invites us to look toward the Savior with a repentant heart and listen for the faithful response His Word calls us to make.
Take care of my sheep.
(John 21:16, NIV, excerpt)
After breakfast by the sea, Jesus asked Peter three times whether he loved Him. Peter, who had denied knowing Jesus before the crucifixion, affirmed his love. Jesus charged him to care for His sheep and spoke of the costly path ahead. The conversation ended with a renewed call to follow Him.
Let love become faithful care
Jesus brought Peter’s love into focus and directed it toward caring for His people. Restoration led into responsibility, and following Christ remained central.
If you are carrying regret, begin with an honest confession to the Lord. Receive the Gospel with faith, seek wise help where needed, and ask what faithful obedience looks like in your present circumstances.
There may be a relationship to repair or a pattern that needs patient change. Appropriate accountability can help make that change real. Move at a pace that honors the people affected.
You can also practice care in the responsibilities already entrusted to you. Listen well, keep a commitment, or offer a kindness with humility. Love for Jesus belongs in the way we treat His people, one faithful action at a time.
A prayer
Jesus, thank You for Your mercy toward repentant people. Help us face our failures honestly, follow You faithfully, and care for the people You have entrusted to us. Amen.
