Helping a Child Admit They Need Help
A child keeps trying the same step, becoming more frustrated each time. They want to manage it alone, yet a little help could make room for learning. We can teach them words for asking.

Ecclesiastes 4 considers the loneliness of endless work without companionship, then describes the practical value of working together. Companions can help, strengthen, and support one another. The passage notices how much ordinary people benefit from shared life.
Give your child a sentence to begin
You might practice, “Could you show me the first step?” or “I tried this part, and I need help with that part.” Clear words can help a child ask for the support they actually need.
When they ask, respond with patience. Offer enough help to move learning forward and let them try an appropriate next step. Notice their willingness to communicate: “You told me where you were stuck. That helps us work together.”
Name trusted adults they can approach at home, school, or church. Make it clear that they can tell you when something feels confusing, unsafe, or too difficult to handle alone.
As a Christian family, you can thank Jesus for people who teach and care for you. Adults can model asking for guidance too. Children learn that receiving help is a normal part of growing in a community.
A prayer
Jesus, give our children courage to ask for help. Surround them with trustworthy people, and make us patient when they come to us. Teach our family to receive and offer care with love. Amen.
