The Friends Who Carried Someone to Jesus
Sometimes the kindest thing a friend can say is, “I can come with you.” A difficult appointment, a first Sunday back at church, or a season of heavy questions can feel different when someone offers their presence.
Son, your sins are forgiven.
(Mark 2:5, NIV, excerpt)
In Mark 2, four people carried a paralyzed man to Jesus. When the crowded house blocked their way, they opened the roof and lowered him through it. Jesus first addressed the man’s sins. He then healed his body, demonstrating His authority to forgive. The friends brought him into the presence of the Savior who could meet his deepest need.
Offer company for the next step
Their determination gives us a picture to carry into friendship: we can help one another draw near to Jesus. That might look like reading a Gospel together, offering a ride to church, or sitting beside someone while they put an honest prayer into words.
Ask your friend what would help. Make an offer you can actually keep. A specific invitation often feels easier to receive than an open-ended instruction to reach out.
There is room to receive that kind of friendship, too. If you have been trying to manage a hard season alone, consider telling one trustworthy believer where you could use some company. Christ’s people are learning to walk toward Him together.
A prayer
Jesus, thank You for Your authority to forgive and Your tender mercy. Make us faithful friends, ready to give and receive help as we draw near to You. Amen.
