Praying for a Friend's Joy

Think of a friend whose love for Jesus has encouraged you. Perhaps they have prayed with you, served beside you, or made room for an honest conversation. Today, you can turn that gratitude into prayer.

I thank my God every time I remember you.

(Philippians 1:3, NIV)

Paul remembered the Philippian believers with joy because of their partnership in the Gospel. He thanked God for them and prayed for their love to grow in knowledge and discernment. His affection looked toward lives bearing righteousness through Jesus Christ and bringing praise to God.

Give thanks, then pray for growth

Begin by naming something specific you appreciate about your friend. Thank God for the kindness you have received through them. Then pray for the person behind that kindness, including the needs you may never see.

Ask that their love for Jesus deepen, their judgment grow wise, and their life bear good fruit. You can pray for joy as they learn to recognize God’s grace in the responsibilities and relationships before them.

If it would encourage them, send a simple message describing what you are thankful for. You might say, “The way you welcomed me helped me feel included.” Share only a prayer you have actually prayed.

Christian friendship has room for this kind of gratitude. We can celebrate God’s work in another person while continuing to ask Him for their growth and care.

A prayer

Father, thank You for my friend. Deepen their love, guide their choices, and fill their life with fruit that comes through Jesus. Give them joy in Your grace and companions who will care for them faithfully. Amen.
