A Prayer After Miscarriage

Miscarriage can leave a family grieving someone the rest of the world never had the chance to meet.

There may be physical pain, appointments, unanswered questions, ordinary responsibilities that did not pause, and reminders that arrive without warning. There may also be people who care deeply but do not know what to say.

Scripture does not require grief to become tidy before it can be brought to God. The Psalms give God’s people language for sorrow, confusion, waiting, and trust. Psalm 34 points the brokenhearted toward the Lord’s nearness. Romans 8 reminds believers that the Spirit helps in weakness, including moments when prayer is difficult to form.

This is not an explanation for why the loss happened. It is simply a prayer for bringing the truth of it before Jesus.

A prayer after miscarriage

Father, You see this loss and every part of it that others cannot see.

Thank You for this little life and for the love already given so freely. Receive the questions, tears, anger, numbness, and exhaustion that are difficult to name.

Please care for this grieving mother’s body. Give wisdom and compassion to those providing medical care. Surround this family with people who will listen without trying to explain the loss, remember without being asked, and offer practical help without waiting for perfect instructions.

Guard this family from the lie that grief is weakness or that faithful people must hurry toward feeling better. Meet them in their mourning and give them strength for the next necessary thing.

When words are gone, let the Spirit help in weakness. When sorrow feels isolating, remind them that they do not have to carry it alone. Keep them near to Christ and hold them in Your mercy.

How to care for someone after miscarriage

Say that you are sorry. Use the baby’s name if one was shared. Remember meaningful dates. Offer one specific act of help: a meal, school pickup, groceries, or company at an appointment. Do not compare losses or search for a reason. Let love be patient enough to stay.
