A Prayer for a Child Who Feels Left Out
Being left out can feel enormous to a child. Even when an adult can see that one moment will not define a lifetime, the child is living inside that moment now.
We can take the hurt seriously without teaching them that belonging depends on being invited everywhere.
Scripture to begin with
Mark 10:14 shows Jesus welcoming children when others tried to keep them away. His attention was not reluctant.
A prayer for this child
Jesus, let this child know they are seen and loved. Meet them in the ache of being left out. Give them words for what happened and courage to tell a trusted adult. Bring kind, wise friendships into their life. Help them notice someone else who needs welcome too. Keep rejection from hardening into bitterness or becoming the measure of their worth. Teach us to offer comfort without dismissing the pain or attacking other children. Amen.
One faithful next step
Say, “That hurt, and I am glad you told me.” Then ask whether they want comfort, help thinking through the next step, or both.

Belonging begins deeper than an invitation. It begins with being welcomed by Jesus.
