A Simple Way to Pray for Your Neighbors
There are people you see often whose lives you know very little about. The neighbor collecting the mail. The parent beside you at pickup. The person who always takes the same bus.
Learning a name can be a small beginning. Praying for that person can become another.
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
(Colossians 4:2, NIV)
Paul follows this instruction by asking for an opportunity to speak clearly about Christ. He also calls believers to act wisely toward people outside the church and to speak with grace. Prayer, thoughtful conduct, and conversation belong together.
Begin with one name
Choose someone you already encounter. Thank God for them. Ask Him to provide for their needs, draw them toward Jesus, and help you love them well.
Then pay attention when you meet. You might ask how their week is going, remember something they mentioned, or offer a simple kindness. A person deserves your care and friendship whatever their response to faith.
If a conversation opens, speak honestly about Jesus and listen carefully. You can explain what you believe, welcome questions, and take time to find an answer together. The next step may be as ordinary as remembering to ask about the thing they told you last week.
A prayer for a neighbor
Father, thank You for the people near me. Please meet their needs and help them know Your love in Christ. Give me a listening heart, gracious words, and courage to share the hope of Jesus. Amen.
