On the Road With Questions and the Risen Jesus

Sometimes we are trying to understand a story while we are still inside it. Questions repeat, our perspective feels small, and we need help seeing what is actually true.

he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

On the road to Emmaus, two disciples spoke with sorrow about Jesus’ death and the reports of His empty tomb. The risen Jesus joined them, though they did not recognize Him. He corrected their slowness to believe and explained how the Scriptures pointed to the Messiah’s suffering and glory. Later, as He broke bread, they recognized Him and returned to share the news.

Let Scripture reshape the story you are telling

Their hope grew clearer as Jesus helped them understand God’s Word. The account directs us toward His death and resurrection as the center of God’s saving work.

When you feel unsettled, give Scripture time to speak before drawing a final conclusion about God. Read this passage with a friend and notice what Jesus says the disciples needed to understand.

Ask a trustworthy teacher to help you see how a passage fits within the Bible’s larger story. You can bring your feelings honestly while allowing the text to correct or deepen your perspective.

Then share what you are learning in a simple, truthful way. A conversation about the risen Jesus can become encouragement for another person who is trying to understand.

A prayer

Jesus, open our understanding of Scripture. Help us receive correction with humility, see Your saving work clearly, and share the hope of Your resurrection with others. Amen.
