The God Who Carries His People
Isaiah 46 contrasts idols that must be carried with the living God who carries His people.
Babylon’s gods are loaded onto animals and carried away. They cannot rescue the burdens placed upon them.
Then the Lord speaks to Israel:
“I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
Isaiah 46:4, NIV
The contrast is beautiful: God is living, sovereign, faithful, and strong. He carries His people. He does not depend on His creatures for existence or strength.
The New Testament directs Christian confidence to Jesus Christ. Our hope rests in Him rather than in success, control, approval, money, or our ability to manage every outcome.
We can work, plan, care for others, and seek wisdom while remembering that none of those created things can bear the weight of being our god.
Isaiah 46 gives us a God worthy of worship and trust, the One who is able to carry what we cannot.
Prayer
God, turn my heart away from the things I am tempted to trust more than You. Teach me to worship You, rest in Your faithfulness, obey Your Word, and place my confidence in Christ. Amen.
