What It Means to Come to Jesus
We come to Jesus carrying all kinds of hunger. We want relief, direction, belonging, forgiveness, security, or some sign that we will be okay.
Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35, NIV)
Read it in context
Read the surrounding passage in the NIV.
In John 6, the crowd had recently eaten bread Jesus miraculously provided. They came looking for Him again, but Jesus directed them beyond the meal. The meal was a sign pointing to Jesus Himself. He invited them to believe in Him and receive eternal life.
Coming to Jesus means trusting Him and receiving the life He gives. Our deepest need is reconciliation with God, and Jesus gives Himself for the life of the world.
Come honestly
You do not have to clean up your questions before you come. Bring the longing, the sin you need to confess, the disappointment, and the hope. Open John 6 and listen to His invitation. Ask Him to help you trust Him with the parts of life you are still trying to hold together.
He invites us to believe in Him. He gives us Himself, the Savior in whom we find eternal life.
A prayer
Jesus, I come to You with the hunger I cannot satisfy on my own. Help me trust who You are, receive Your grace, and find my life in You. Amen.
