When God Breaks Into Ordinary Days With Good News
The shepherds were working at night when they received extraordinary news.
The announcement
Luke 2 says shepherds were watching their flocks when an angel of the Lord appeared and the glory of the Lord shone around them. They were terrified.
“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.”
Luke 2:10, NIV
The angel announced that a Savior had been born in the town of David: Christ the Lord.
What the shepherds did
The shepherds went to Bethlehem and found Mary, Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. After seeing Him, they spread the word about what they had been told concerning the child. They returned glorifying and praising God for what they had heard and seen.
Luke keeps our attention on the heart of the story: the Savior has been born. Good news entered an ordinary night, and the shepherds responded by going to Jesus, sharing what they had heard, and praising God.
A prayer for today
Father, thank You for sending Jesus Christ, the Savior. Help me receive the testimony of Scripture with faith, worship You for what You have done, and speak truthfully about Christ to others. Amen.
