How to Choose a Scripture Gift for a New Baby

The best place to begin a Scripture gift is with the passage itself. Before choosing a font, color, or blanket, ask what these words mean and why you want to give them to this family.

Match the meaning to your intention

To express love: 1 John 4:7-21 connects our love for one another with God's love toward us.
To offer a blessing: Numbers 6:22-27 records the blessing God gave Aaron and his sons to speak over Israel.
To give thanks: James 1:16-18 directs gratitude toward the Father as the source of good gifts.

These are summaries of passages. When writing an exact quotation in your card, copy it accurately from a named Bible translation.

Respect the family's story

A verse connected to waiting, adoption, loss, or answered prayer may be deeply personal. Use it when the parents have welcomed that connection. You do not need to name private experiences to celebrate their baby thoughtfully.

Hannah's prayer in 1 Samuel 1 is part of her particular story. Giving a verse from it should not imply that enough prayer guarantees a pregnancy or a particular medical outcome.

Choose a form that fits
