How to Make Help Easier to Accept
You mean it when you say, “Let me know if you need anything.” But someone carrying a difficult week may struggle to decide what to ask for, how much is reasonable, or whether you really have time.
A specific offer gives them something simpler to answer.
Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
(Romans 12:13, NIV)
In Romans 12, Paul describes a community shaped by God's mercy: sincere love, honor, patient hope, faithful prayer, and shared resources. This is a way of living together that grows from the mercy God has shown us in Christ.
Offer one thing you can do
You might say, “I am going to the grocery store Thursday. May I pick up a few things for you?” Or, “Would a meal on Tuesday help? What foods work for your family?”
Offer something you can reliably provide. Let the person choose, and receive their answer kindly. If they say yes, agree on the details so they have one less thing to arrange. If they decline, you can remain a friend without pressing.
When you say you will pray, take a moment to pray. When you offer practical help, follow through. Our words and actions can work together to make Christ's love tangible within His church.
A prayer
Jesus, help me notice what would serve someone well. Give me wisdom to offer what I can, humility to listen, and faithfulness to follow through. Amen.
