How to Pray for Someone Who Is Hurting
Sometimes we know someone is hurting and still do not know what to say.
Prayer gives us a way to bring the person we love before God without needing to understand every part of the story.
Ask for mercy
Pray simply for God’s mercy, comfort, wisdom, and help.
Ask for what is needed today
There may be a decision, appointment, conversation, meal, night of sleep, or difficult responsibility directly in front of them. Pray specifically for that need.
Pray Scripture
Psalm 46 reminds us that God is refuge and strength. Romans 8 reminds believers that the Spirit helps in weakness and that nothing can separate those in Christ from the love of God.
Ask how you can help
Prayer and practical love belong together. A meal, ride, phone call, or quiet act of service may become part of the answer you are asking God to provide.
A simple prayer
Father, You know what my friend is carrying. Give mercy, wisdom, strength, and the help they need today. Keep them close to Your truth and surround them with faithful people. Amen.
