Letting Hospitality Fit Your Real Home
You would like to invite someone over, and then you start noticing everything you would prefer to finish first. Consider what a guest might actually need: a clear invitation, a comfortable place, and your attention.
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
(1 Peter 4:9, NIV, excerpt)
Peter calls believers to prayer, deep love, hospitality, and service through the strength God provides. The purpose is that God be praised through Jesus Christ. Welcome belongs within this shared life of grace, where gifts are used to serve one another.
Choose a welcome you can offer with care
Plan something that fits your capacity: a simple drink, an easy meal, or a short visit. Ask about practical needs so you can make the invitation considerate.
Prepare the parts that will help your guest feel at ease. Tell them what to expect, make space to sit, and give yourself permission to keep the gathering manageable.
During the visit, listen and allow the conversation to unfold. Let the person share at their own pace and receive the kindness they bring too.
Pray for a willing heart, especially if comparison or resentment is crowding out joy. Following Jesus can take shape in an ordinary welcome, offered with the strength and resources available to you and thoughtful care for another person.
A prayer
Lord Jesus, help me offer hospitality with a willing heart. Give me wisdom about what I can prepare and attentiveness to the person I welcome. Let our time together hold honest conversation, gratitude, and love that honors You. Amen.
