Making Room for New Friendships in a New Season
Sometimes a new friendship begins with a small question: Would you like to sit with us? There can be kindness in making the first invitation, especially when someone is still learning where they belong.
Practice hospitality.

Romans 12 describes sincere love expressed in everyday life. Paul places hospitality alongside generosity, prayer, humility, and care for people in joy and sorrow. Christian welcome belongs within this larger way of living in response to God’s mercy.
Offer a welcome someone can receive
Think about a place where you regularly meet people: church, a class, a volunteer team, or a neighborhood gathering. Notice who may appreciate an introduction or company.
Offer a clear, gentle invitation. Suggest coffee after church, a walk, or a seat at an ordinary meal. Let the person choose freely and consider what is practical for them.
Learn something about their interests and listen with real attention. Friendship often grows through repeated, ordinary contact.
If you are the one entering a new season, you can also ask to join a conversation or help with a shared task. Bring the hope for friendship to Jesus, and give relationships room to develop with patience.
A prayer
Lord, grow sincere love in the way we welcome one another. Give us courage to make thoughtful invitations and humility to receive them. Help our churches become places where new people are noticed and relationships grow in Your grace. Amen.
