Mary Magdalene Carries News of the Risen Jesus

Mary Magdalene stands outside the tomb in tears. By the end of this encounter, she has news to carry. The turning point is Jesus Himself, alive and speaking to her.

I have seen the Lord!

(John 20:18, NIV, excerpt)

Mary initially mistakes Jesus for the gardener. When He calls her by name, she recognizes Him. Jesus sends her to His brothers with a message about His Father, and she tells the disciples that she has seen the risen Lord.

Share the good news with care

Notice the particularity of this account: a real encounter with the risen Jesus and a message entrusted to Mary. Her words direct the disciples toward Him.

We receive this testimony in Scripture. As we share Christian faith, we can keep the same clear center: Jesus died and rose again, and He calls people to believe in Him.

Think of someone who has asked a question about Easter or the Christian hope. Offer to read this account together. Give their questions time, and be honest about what you still need to learn.

Good news deserves both clarity and kindness. A conversation over coffee, a thoughtful message, or reading a Gospel together can make space for someone to consider Jesus.

A prayer

Risen Jesus, thank You for the testimony preserved in Your Word. Help us speak about You truthfully and with love. Give us attentive ears for people’s questions and courage to share the hope of Your resurrection. Amen.
