Scripture for the Middle of the Night
The middle of the night can make fears feel larger because there is less around us to interrupt anxious thoughts.
When you are awake and afraid, return to what Scripture says about God.
When you feel afraid
Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” The whole psalm places upheaval beside the steady reality of God’s presence and sovereign rule.
When you are carrying tomorrow
In Matthew 6:25–34, Jesus reminds His disciples that the Father knows what they need and calls them to seek first His kingdom and righteousness.
When you feel alone
Romans 8 ends with the assurance that nothing in all creation can separate those who are in Christ Jesus from the love of God.
When sleep will not come
Psalm 4:8 says, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Let those words turn your attention toward the God who is present with you in the night.
Father, You know what I fear tonight. Bring Your Word to mind. Give me wisdom for anything that truly requires action and help me entrust the rest to You. Quiet my thoughts, steady my heart, and let me rest in Your care. Amen.

The night can make fear feel louder, but it cannot make God less near.
