Talking About Baptism With Your Child
Your child watches a baptism and asks what is happening. That is a welcome opportunity to talk about Jesus, His death and resurrection, and the life of following Him.

In Romans 6, Paul speaks of baptism in connection with believers’ union with Christ in His death and resurrection. He calls Christians to live as people brought from death to life, offering themselves to God. The passage centers the new life found in Jesus and the call to turn from sin.
Begin with the good news of Jesus
Ask your child what they noticed and what they are wondering. Explain the Gospel in clear words: Jesus died for our sins and rose again; He calls us to turn to Him in faith and follow Him.
Read a short part of Romans 6 together. Help your child see why the church speaks about Jesus’ death and resurrection when it celebrates baptism. Leave room for questions about words they have not heard before.
Invite a pastor or trusted teacher in your church to help continue the conversation and explain your church’s baptism practice. A patient conversation can grow over time as a child learns.
Pray for your child to know Christ and respond to Him with faith. Keep the focus on Jesus, the grace He gives, and the life of love and obedience He calls His people to share.

Lord Jesus, help our children understand the good news of Your death and resurrection. Lead them to trust and follow You. Give us patient words and faithful support as we learn together with Your church. Amen.
