The Good News Jesus Announced in Nazareth
What kind of good news does Jesus bring? In the synagogue at Nazareth, He read from Isaiah and directed the room’s attention toward God’s promised saving work.

Jesus read about the Spirit-anointed One proclaiming good news to the poor, freedom, recovery of sight, and the Lord’s favor. Then He said the Scripture was fulfilled in their hearing. As the encounter continued, His listeners resisted His words about God’s mercy reaching beyond their own community. Luke introduces a Savior whose mission calls people to receive Him and whose grace crosses familiar boundaries.
Pay attention to the people His mercy reaches
Begin with Jesus Himself. He is the One who fulfills God’s promise. His saving work gives us good news to receive and share.
As you read this scene, ask where you have become too comfortable drawing a small circle around the people who deserve your attention. A neighbor with a different background or someone with little influence may help you notice a place for love to grow.
Choose a practical way to listen and care. Learn a name, ask about a need, or support a faithful local ministry that welcomes people with dignity.
Let your words about Jesus and your treatment of people belong together. We can share His Gospel with warmth while offering concrete kindness to the people He calls us to love.

Jesus, thank You for the good news You bring. Help us receive You with faith and share Your mercy with generous attention to people beyond our familiar circle. Amen.
