What Jesus Meant by “Follow Me”
“Follow me” can sound gentle enough to fit anywhere. In the Gospels, it is an invitation with weight. Jesus calls real people to trust Him, learn from Him, and let Him redirect their lives.
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” (Mark 1:17, NIV)

Read the surrounding passage in the NIV.
Mark places this call immediately after Jesus announces that the kingdom of God has come near and calls people to repent and believe the good news. Simon and Andrew are working when Jesus meets them. They leave their nets and follow.
Following Jesus means entrusting our lives to Him as Lord. He teaches us what to love, what to leave, how to treat people, and where to go.

Most discipleship happens in ordinary choices. Tell the truth when dishonesty would protect your image. Forgive as Christ forgave you. Notice the person others pass by. Refuse what draws your heart away from Him. Return when you wander.
We do not follow perfectly, but we follow a perfect Savior. His grace meets repentant people and keeps forming us as we walk with Him.
A prayer
Jesus, You are Lord. Teach me to follow You with my decisions, relationships, work, words, and attention. Show me the next faithful step and give me courage to take it. Amen.
