What Surrounds You Matters

There are words you notice because you pass them every day. A note beside the kettle. A card tucked near your keys. A sentence you read while waiting for the toast.

What if one of those small places invited you back to Jesus?

Paul writes, “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly” (Colossians 3:16, NIV).

He is speaking to a church learning to live together in Christ. In the surrounding verses, he calls believers to compassion, humility, patience, and forgiveness. They are to teach one another, sing with gratitude, and let love hold their life together.

That gives us a lovely starting point for our homes. We can make space for Scripture in the moments we already have and let its truth shape how we treat each other.

Choose a short passage to read this week. You might begin with Colossians 3:12–17. Write one sentence from it on a card and place it somewhere you will notice. When you see it, return to the passage and ask, “How can I live this with the people I meet today?”

Perhaps that means answering gently, asking forgiveness, or thanking someone you have been taking for granted. If you live alone, you might share the passage with a friend from church and ask what stands out to them.

Over time, a familiar reminder can become an invitation to read, pray, and practice love. Jesus remains at the center as His Word finds a place in our ordinary conversations and choices.
