How to Choose a Cap: Fit, Color + Everyday Care

A cap is a small thing you can reach for on school mornings, road trips, and the walk out the door. Begin with the person wearing it, then choose the message and color.

Check whose size you are choosing

The shop includes adult and child caps from Modern Burlap and other makers. A size name from one maker is not a fit guarantee for another. Some designs put size options on one page; others have separate adult and child listings.

If measurements are listed, compare them with the wearer using the same measurement method. If the fit range is missing, send us the exact product link and ask. Adjustable does not mean one cap will fit every adult or child.

Look at the front and the back

The front shows the message, embroidery, and shape. The back helps you understand the closure. Check the listing for the material and adjustment details rather than assuming all caps are constructed alike.

For example, our adult Good Ol' Days cap is listed as 100% cotton with embroidered lettering and an adjustable back closure. Other hats have their own specifications.

Choose a color they will wear often

A familiar neutral can become an everyday favorite; a brighter color can make a gift feel personal. Open the listing's color options to see the full selection, then confirm the chosen color near the purchase button. Lighting and screens can change how a color appears.

Build an adult-and-child pairing

For Good Ol' Days, choose the adult cap and the child cap separately. Match the color names available in both listings, or choose complementary shades. Check current availability for each piece.

You receive one cap per selected item, not a set. If you are gifting, knowing the intended wearer's size matters more than matching every color exactly.

Keep the shape and lettering in mind

Follow the care instructions supplied with the exact cap. Ask before machine washing, soaking, scrubbing embroidery, or using heat when the instructions are unclear. Different fabrics, brims, and closures can need different care.
