How to Care for Your Modern Burlap Textiles
The care label on your exact piece is the starting point. Modern Burlap includes different materials and makers, so one laundry routine should not be applied to every swaddle, garment, quilt, and throw.
Read three things before washing
- Fiber content: cotton muslin, jersey, and a recycled cotton blend are different fabrics.
- Construction: several layers, a print, a zipper, fringe, or tassels can affect how the piece should be handled.
- Care instructions: check wash temperature, cycle, drying method, and any restrictions on bleach or ironing.
If the label and product page differ, ask about the exact item before treating it. Send the product name and a clear photograph of the label.
A verified example: the XO recycled cotton throw
The current XO throw listing specifies an 80% recycled cotton, 20% polyester blend. Its instructions are machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, no bleach, and tumble dry low on a delicate setting.
Use those instructions for that item when they agree with its label. They are not a universal rule for every product called a throw.
Keep printed pieces and trim in mind
Before laundering, check for objects that could snag the fabric and follow any closure instructions on the garment label. Handle fringe and tassels gently. Do not pull at a loose thread or apply a stain treatment without checking whether it suits the fabric and print.
For a stain you are unsure how to treat, ask before using a stronger product. More heat or more scrubbing is not automatically a better solution.
Let keepsakes dry fully before storing
Store clean, completely dry textiles in a dry place away from prolonged direct sunlight. Keep the gift note and date on a separate card. Avoid attaching tape or adhesive labels directly to the fabric.
