Barnabas Sees Someone Who Needs an Advocate
It can matter deeply when someone helps a room understand who we are. In Jerusalem, Barnabas steps beside Saul and tells the apostles what has happened since Saul encountered Jesus.
Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles.
(Acts 9:27, NIV, excerpt)
The disciples are afraid of Saul because of his earlier persecution of believers. Barnabas explains Saul’s encounter with the Lord and his preaching about Jesus in Damascus. With this account heard, Saul joins them and continues speaking in the Lord’s name.
Help people be understood truthfully
Notice that Barnabas offers concrete information about Christ’s work and Saul’s changed conduct. He gives the apostles something meaningful to consider.
In everyday church life, you may be able to help a newcomer make a connection. Ask their permission before sharing their story, and speak accurately about what you know.
An introduction can be simple: explain a shared interest, invite someone into a conversation, or help them find the right person to answer a question. Allow relationships to grow with wisdom and time.
Thank Jesus for people who have helped you belong. Then consider one truthful, thoughtful introduction you can offer this week. Small acts of welcome can help people participate in the life of the church.

Jesus, thank You for the grace that changes lives and gathers Your people. Help us speak truthfully about one another, welcome people wisely, and make room for meaningful relationships in Your church. Amen.
