Philip Makes Time for One Traveler's Question
A question opens the conversation: does this traveler understand what he is reading? Philip meets him with Scripture, attention, and the good news about Jesus.

Directed by the Spirit, Philip approaches an Ethiopian official reading Isaiah. The man invites Philip to sit with him and asks about the passage. Philip explains it in relation to Jesus. The traveler is baptized and continues his journey with joy.
Make room for a real question
Think of a question about the Bible that you have been hesitant to ask. Bring it to a trusted teacher or believer who will read the passage carefully with you.
If someone asks you a question, begin by listening. Find out what they are trying to understand before offering an answer.
Open the surrounding passage together. Take time with unfamiliar words or details, and keep the larger story of Jesus in view. It is appropriate to keep studying when an answer needs more care.
Philip’s attention is given to a particular person on a particular journey. We can offer that kind of presence in a conversation today, making room for understanding and a thoughtful response to Christ.

Jesus, help us welcome honest questions about Your Word. Give us patience to listen, humility to learn, and clarity when we speak. Use our conversations to help people understand the good news about You. Amen.
