Telling the Truth When It Costs You Something
Truthfulness can ask something of us. It may mean admitting we forgot a task, correcting an inaccurate impression, or giving an answer that is less flattering than we hoped. These ordinary moments belong to a life of following Jesus.
speak truthfully to your neighbor,

In Ephesians 4, Paul describes the new life believers learn in Christ. He calls them to put away falsehood and speak truthfully because they belong to one body. Honesty sits beside useful work, generosity, gracious speech, and forgiveness rooted in God’s forgiveness through Christ.
Choose one clear, truthful sentence
If someone needs an accurate answer from you, begin with the facts you know. You can say, “I have not finished that yet,” or, “I made a mistake in what I told you.” Then explain the responsible next step.
Where you are uncertain, be clear about that too. Taking time to check something can serve a neighbor well. Truthfulness helps people make decisions with reliable information.
If honesty brings embarrassment, ask Jesus to help you bear that moment with humility. You can seek wise support when a situation has serious consequences.
The new life Paul describes is lived together. Our words affect people who rely on us. Speaking accurately is one practical way to care for their trust and honor the Lord who is forming us.
A prayer
Lord Jesus, help me love the truth in ordinary moments. Give me humility to acknowledge mistakes, wisdom to speak carefully, and courage to take responsibility. May my neighbors find care in the words I give them. Amen.
