Learning to Receive Correction With Humility
It can be hard to hear that you missed something. Your first thought may be an explanation, especially when you tried your best. A moment of humility can make room to learn what another person has noticed.
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,

Proverbs 12 begins by connecting a love of instruction with a love of knowledge. It speaks sharply about refusing correction, then contrasts goodness with wicked schemes. The invitation is to value the kind of teaching that helps a person grow in wisdom and righteousness.
Listen for what is useful and true
Following Jesus includes remaining teachable. When someone offers correction, try asking for a specific example. Listen long enough to understand the concern before deciding how to respond.
You can weigh what you hear against Scripture and the facts. If part of the feedback is accurate, acknowledge that part plainly. A useful response might be, “I see what you mean. Here is what I will change.”
Some feedback needs careful thought or help from someone wise. You can take time to discern it without making an immediate promise. Respectful correction gives room for clarity, questions, and responsible action.
Later, return to the conversation if you need to. Gratitude for helpful guidance can strengthen a relationship. There is dignity in being a person who is still learning, and joy in seeing that learning become faithful action.
A prayer
Lord Jesus, give me a teachable heart. Help me recognize wise correction, receive it with humility, and act on what is true. Grow in me a love for the wisdom that honors You. Amen.
