The Mercy Jesus Spoke From the Cross

The Gospel gives us a reason to turn toward Jesus with honesty about our need. At the cross, Luke records a conversation that lets us hear the Savior’s mercy with particular clarity.

Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.

Jesus was crucified between two criminals. One mocked Him. The other acknowledged his own guilt, recognized Jesus’ innocence, and asked to be remembered when Jesus came into His kingdom. Jesus answered with the promise that he would be with Him in paradise that day. In the midst of His suffering, Christ spoke saving mercy to a man who turned toward Him.

Bring your need to the Savior

The man’s hope rested in Jesus and His kingdom. This scene directs our attention toward the One who has authority to save.
