When Shame Keeps Bringing Back What Jesus Forgave

There are sins we remember long after we have confessed them.

A sentence we wish we could take back. A season we regret. A choice that harmed someone. A failure we still replay.

First John 1:9 tells us that God is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse those who confess their sins. Romans 8:1 says there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Repentance can have real fruit: an apology, restitution, changed behavior, or rebuilding trust where that is possible and wise. Grace leads us toward truth and changed lives.

And for those who are in Christ, His sacrifice is sufficient. We can tell the truth about our sin and also tell the truth about His forgiveness.

When an old failure returns to mind, bring it to God. Make any repair that still needs to be made. Then return again to what Scripture says about the mercy and forgiveness found in Christ.

Reflection

Is there a confessed sin you need to place again under the truth of Christ’s forgiveness?

Prayer

Father, thank You for the forgiveness You give in Christ. Show me where repentance or repair is still needed, and help me believe Your Word when shame tries to speak louder than grace. Amen.
