Hospital chair with folded blanket and Bible for A Prayer for a Child in the Hospital

A Prayer for a Child in the Hospital

When a child is in the hospital, ordinary time can disappear. The next test, next conversation, next set of numbers, or next decision can fill the whole room.

Scripture gives us words when our own feel small.

Psalm 23 reminds us that the Lord is Shepherd, present even in the darkest valley. Romans 8 reminds believers that the Spirit helps us in weakness and that nothing can separate those who are in Christ from the love of God.

A prayer for a child in the hospital

Father, please have mercy on this child.

Give wisdom, skill, patience, and clarity to every person providing care. Help them notice what matters and make good decisions.

Give this child comfort, strength, rest, and healing according to Your wisdom and mercy.

Give the family courage for each conversation and wisdom for every decision. Provide trustworthy people to help carry what feels too heavy.

When fear rises, bring Your Word to mind. When we do not know what to pray, help us in our weakness. Keep those who belong to Christ anchored in Your love.

Be near through the waiting, the questions, the long nights, and the next step.

Amen.
